Field of Streams- Good Omens

In more “Hugh and Wade watched a thing” we cover the Amazon streaming show based on Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s book Good Omens.
Did we like it?  Who was the junior partner in this book collaboration?  How did Neil do adapting this to screen all by himself?  Should you watch it, or should you be elitist and just read the book?    Is Beck the Neil Gaiman of music?

Yesterday we saw See You Yesterday

Hugh and Wade watch some Netflix.
We went cold turkey into a time travel film the movie blogs were talking up.

We might not be the best equipped to talk about cultural pain, but we can catch a Back to the Future or an Octavia Butler reference when we see it.

We cover the movie, why it was buried so deep on netflix, and why some websites seem to rate it lower than others.

What is “The Wandering Earth”?

We watched the highest grossing movie in the history of China, the second highest non English language film in history, and one of the 20 highest grossing scifi movies of all time.    How come no one talks about it?  It just came out in February.

Is this the Michael Bay movie of Chinese sensibilities?  Is this even propaganda?  We may or may not agree with each other.  Surprise Surprise

Endgame of Thrones

It was a long weekend.  “The Long Night” broke James.  We reflected on Avengers: Endgame and Game of Thrones, and what that might say about ourselves and where we’re at.

The final three chapters of the book that ruined superheroes for a generation are discussed, as are the upcoming HBO series from Damon Lindelhoff, and a possibly impending doom for the floppy comics industry.

On the Patreon this Week

Even when we’re not yelling loudly about it, there’s stuff going on at the Kicker of Elves patreon. Two short talks we had this week:

The Quiet Ennui of the High School PE Teacher
Where we talked about the games people play and men who yell at teenagers.
And sometime paddle them.

Greatest Edgelords
We talk some about the “controversy” regarding Star Trek and canon, and what that really might be about for some of the angry lads on the internet.

Hashish Platinum- Watchmen Ep. 2

A Book Club for Hell World

For The Hashish and Superiority Book Club:

A B-Side to our ongoing Alan Moore content.

Wade sees a lot of themes Moore will later revisit in Jerusalem in the Doctor Manhattan chapter.

Fearful Symmetry. Oh hey look:  symmetry.Black freighters and toy manufacturers. All bout that Grateful Dead poster.  Rorshach’s Abyss. Has this aged the worst for us?

For “the greatest super hero story ever told” we sure have a lot of criticisms to make.
